Abstrakt: Článek pojednává o populačním vývoji v jednotlivých městských částech Hl. m. Prahy a je dáván do kontextu s historií výstavby metra. Poukazuje tak na provázání populačního vývoje s dopravními trendy v Praze. Za pomocí dat z ČSÚ ukazuje rozložení hustoty zalidnění a stěhování lidí dále od centra díky rychlejší a spolehlivější přepravě. Jsou popsány příklady jednotlivých sídlišť vystavěných na periferii Prahy. V závěru je tak ukázáno na to, že metro mělo a má vliv na současný populační stav Prahy, ale i její současnou podobu, protože díky metru mohlo vzniknout dále od centra větší množství sídlišť.

Abstract (EN): Metro and its influence on the demographic development of the city: the example of Prague. The article discusses the population development in individual city districts of the capital city and this development is put into context of the metro´s construction history. The article thus points to the link between the population development and the changes in transport in Prague. With the help of data from the Czech Statistical Office, the text shows differences in population density and migration of people further from the centre thanks to faster and more reliable means of transport. Examples of particular residential areas built on the outskirts of Prague are described. It is shown that the metro had and still has an influence on the current population status of Prague, and also on its current form, because thanks to the metro, a larger number of housing estates could have been built further away from the centre.
