Abstrakt: Země tzv. Severního trojúhelníku Střední Ameriky se dlouhodobě pohybují na předních místech žebříčku v počtu zavražděných na sto tisíc obyvatel. Za značnou částí násilných smrtí a gangů obecně stojí tzv. maras, gangy mladistvých, které v celém regionu dosahují desetitisíců členů. Tento článek se soustředí na vývoj maras, reakci středoamerických států na tuto hrozbu vnitřní bezpečnosti a také na dopad nedávného příměří mezi gangy na bezpečnostní situaci v El Salvadoru, Hondurasu a Guatemale.

Abstract (EN): Street Gangs as a Security Problem in Northern Central America. For some time now, the countries of the so-called Northern Triangle of Central America have ranked at or near the top in the number of murders per hundred thousand inhabitants. “Maras,” gangs of young people, which include tens of thousands of members throughout the region, account for a significant portion of these violent deaths. The article focuses on development of the maras, the reactions of Central American states the resulting threats to internal security as well as the impact of the recent truce among gangs on the security situation of El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.
