Abstrakt: Postsocialistická města charakterizuje adaptace zděděných struktur na nově nastolené tržní podmínky. Zavedení tržních principů stimulovalo změnu sociálních praktik a společenské procesy jako jsou internacionalizace, ekonomická restrukturalizace a sociální diferenciace, které se odrážejí v prostorové reorganizaci měst, zejména komercializaci center, revitalizaci částí vnitřních měst a suburbanizaci zázemí. Současná transformace městských struktur může vést k budoucím problémům. Předvídání vývojových trendů a prevence problematických trajektorií je prvořadým aktuálním úkolem geografů.

Abstract (EN): Transformation of Post-socialist Metropolises. In post-socialist cities urban environments formed under socialist regimes are being adapted to new conditions shaped by the transition to capitalist society. The establishment of market principles of resource allocation stimulated changing social practices and the development of social transformations such as internationalization, economic restructuring and social differentiation, which in turn affected spatial urban reorganizations, namely the commercialization of city centers, the revitalization of inner city areas, and the suburbanization in urban hinterlands. Urban transformation can lead to the formation of new path dependencies. The anticipation of future development paths and prevention of problem processes is thus the key task for geographers.
