Abstrakt: Příspěvek popisuje dramatické okolnosti jedné geografické exkurze z PřF UK do sovětské střední Asie v srpnu 1968, kdy se členové exkurze stali svědky invaze armád Varšavské smlouvy do Československa doslova z druhé strany. Vzpomínky přímého účastníka exkurze na pocity zoufalství a bezmoci v tisíce kilometrů vzdálené cizině, reakce kolegů i sovětské strany, chování úřadů i zážitek z Rudého náměstí popisuje svým nezaměnitelným způsobem bývalý dlouholetý šéfredaktor Geografických rozhledů.

Abstract (EN): Memories of a geographic excursion in the Soviet Union in August 1968. The paper describes the dramatic circumstances of a geographic excursion from Charles University to Soviet Central Asia in August 1968, when members of the excursion witnessed the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops into Czechoslovakia from the other side. The excursion-participant memories of feelings of despair and helplessness, thousands of miles from home, the reaction of colleagues and the Soviets, the behavior of the authorities and the experience on the Red Square are described in the unmistakable way by the former longtime Editor-in-Chief of Geografické rozhledy.
