Abstrakt: Článek přibližuje klíčové změny chovu exotických zvířat (v zoo) v kontextu vývoje společnosti. Reflektuje proměnu od kolekcí vysokého počtu druhů bez snahy o reprodukci přes zvládnutí chovu až po zapojení do ochrany přírody a budování dlouhodobě životaschopných populací, které mohou zajistit zachování druhů. Text zároveň zdůrazňuje význam mezinárodní spolupráce a koordinace.

Abstract (EN): Changes in keeping and breeding of exotic animals in European zoos. The article outlines the key changes in keeping of exotic animals in human care (in the zoo) within the context of the development of society. It reflects the transformation from collections focusing on a large number of species without any effort of reproduction, through mastery of breeding to involvement in nature conservation and building long-term viable populations that can ensure the conservation of species. The text also emphasizes the importance of international cooperation and coordination.
