Abstrakt: Americko-mexická hranice, nejfrekventovanější hraniční linie na světě, je zároveň politicky výbušné téma, přitahující pozornost médií. Veřejnost si ji často spojuje se stavbou neprostupné zdi, která má zastavit mezinárodní migraci. Původ migrantů a jejich motivace směřovat do Spojených států se však v posledních několika desetiletí významně změnila. Článek rozebírá příčiny této změny i možná jiná řešení, než je stavba neprostupné a extrémně drahé bariéry, ale také příčiny a změny v migračních tocích v americko-mexickém příhraničí.

Abstract (EN): The U.S.-Mexico border: A barrier against organized crime or a humanitarian crisis zone? The U.S.-Mexico border, the busiest border line in the world, is also a politically explosive topic attracting media attention. The public often associates it with the construction of a wall to stop international migration. However, the origins of migrants and their motivation to move to the United States have changed significantly in the last few decades. The article describes the causes of this change and possible other solutions than the construction of an impenetrable and extremely expensive barrier, but deals also with the causes and changes in migration flows in the U.S.-Mexico borderland.
