Abstrakt: Článek popisuje vznik Golfského proudu a systém proudění v severní polovině Atlantského oceánu a poukazuje na vliv oceánských proudů na klima přilehlých pevnin. Jsou diskutovány také důsledky případného kolapsu systému oceánského proudění.

Abstract (EN): Gulf Stream: heat for Europe from Central America. The article describes the origin of the Gulf Stream and the flow system in the northern half of the Atlantic Ocean with a focus on the influence of ocean currents on the climate of the adjacent land. The consequences of a possible collapse of the ocean system are discussed too.
