Abstrakt: Článek je shrnutím tématu na dvou rovinách: Nejprve pojednává o konkrétních důsledcích britské koloniální nadvlády nad regionem z pohledu ekonomiky, demografie, organizace náboženství a kastovní legislativy. Tím připravuje obsah pro závěrečné shrnutí současného výzkumu na druhé, teoretické rovině, která se týká předpokladů zděděných z koloniální éry.

Abstract (EN): Heritage of the British colonialism in South Asia. The article presents an overview of the topic on two levels: Firstly, the imminent effects of the British colonial rule in the economy, demography, religious organization, and caste legislation on the subcontinent. This provides the material for a brief summary of the current research on the second, theoretical level, concerning the largely unexamined assumptions of the colonial era, very much present in the current geographical debates.
