Abstrakt: Koncem března 2011 nás čeká další v pořadí již 14. sčítání lidu, domů a bytů na území našeho státu. Požádali jsme proto geografa Jana Müllera, našeho předního odborníka, o informaci o významu sčítání, o problémech, které jsou s takovou akcí v každém desetiletí spojené a především o výsledcích pro uživatele, zejména geografy.
Abstract (EN): The Population Census from the Perspective of Geography. This article presents basic information concerning the purpose and contents of the population census in Czechia in 2011. It includes information on problems associated with the census and about two methods used for recording/reporting data on residents – those of the Czech Statistical Office and the Ministry of the Interior (Register of Residents). The article also discusses the delimitation and revision of basic settlement units within Czechia’s territory as an important phase in the preparation of the population census.
